The Proposal

Kevin cleverly and somewhat spontaneously announced that he wanted to go to Las Vegas for his birthday. April thought that sounded like a fine idea and while the thought that it would also be a wonderful place to get engaged crept around in the shadows, she really believed they were just going to party. After all, the holidays came and went, New Year's and Valentine's Day – no ring, no bended knee on those opportune events, so whatever April might have thought about a pending proposal ebbed away. She was just happy spending time with Kevin, his kids and her daughter.

In Vegas, after a day of doing what most people do there – cocktails, roaming the strip, emptying your wallet at the casino, it was late and going out to a romantic dinner seemed improbable. Kevin said no, "I'm taking my baby out for a nice dinner!" It was an 11:30 pm reservation at Mon Ami Gabi, a French Bistro on a terrace overlooking Las Vegas Boulevard. The table faced the famous Bellagio light show. The food was unbelievably good, the cocktails excellent and the atmosphere beyond romantic.

This "perfect time to propose' also passed. Really, April didn't care, as she kept telling Kevin that "this is the most epic night and it just doesn't get any better" his heart raced. The ring, the one he told her five months earlier "hadn't worked out" was nestled in the pocket of the new shorts she bought him for his birthday. The Bellagio light show was in full swing, dinner came and went and Kevin said, "I want to take you to the top of the Eifel tower, the view is amazing.

The tower closed at 1:00 am, it was 12:30 and 30 minutes into Kevin's birthday. April, who is easily distracted by the scenery and excited to be up there, didn't notice that suddenly all the other tourists were gone. Kevin had talked to the attendant while April was distracted, and asked her to shuttle off the other guests so that he could propose. He started out by telling April that he wasn't ready to get married, and would let her know when he was. He then led her to the other side of the tower and said, "how about now?" He then pulled out the ring, dropped to one knee, and asked April to marry him!

She said,"YES!"
